Residents Must Live In

Atascocita/Summerwood, Baytown, Channelview, Crosby, Fall Creek, Fifth Ward, Galena Park, Highlands, Huffman, Humble, Jacinto City, North Shore, Pleasantville, and Sheldon are all locations in Northeast Harris County and East Houston area.

Attendance

Our program allows only one missed class. Regular attendance is essential for keeping up with the course material.

Participation

Participation is key to the success of our program. We encourage active engagement in every session, as it enhances learning and understanding. Students are expected to contribute to discussions, collaborate with peers, and actively participate in all activities

Project

Students will create a brochure about a health topic they studied in class. This project helps them learn more about an issue they care about and share that knowledge with their community.

About the Course

Week 1: Program Orientation & SDOH
  • Introduction to the program and Social Determinants of Health.

    • Welcome and program overview.
    • Icebreaker activities to foster connections.
    • Understanding community health challenges.
    • Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) exploration.
Week 2: Health Basics

Explore the fundamentals of physical and nutritional well-being.

  • Benefits of exercise and at-home workouts.
  • Balanced diet, portion sizes, and meal planning.
  • Healthy cooking and budget-friendly shopping.
Week 3: Preventive Care

Focus on disease prevention and health screenings.

  • Importance of vaccinations and common misconceptions.
  • Health screenings and early detection.
  • Understanding primary, secondary, tertiary prevention.
Week 4: Mental Well-being

Discover techniques for managing stress and fostering mental health.
