Community connections

Building bridges. Expanding opportunity.

East Harris County came together at San Jacinto College for the Bridges Out of Poverty Regional Convening—a day of shared learning about the barriers that shape opportunity and the relationships that help communities move forward.

Read the story

EHCEC hosted the gathering to build a common understanding of poverty and connect that learning to the realities of our region. Guided by the Bridges framework, participants explored resources beyond income, economic-class perspectives, hidden rules, and the role of family and community support.

Regional data connected those ideas to the people and places we serve. The convening created space to consider how stronger relationships and coordination can improve our collective response.

Thank you to Episcopal Health Foundation for sponsoring the workshop, MainStreet Ministries Houston for bringing the workshop and framework, and San Jacinto College North Campus for hosting a welcoming learning environment.

The investment supports EHCEC’s vision of becoming an AI-powered organization by building staff knowledge, strengthening digital and workforce navigation, and integrating emerging technology into how we work and serve.

Through initiatives such as Level Up Learning, staff are building practical AI skills that can increase efficiency, strengthen decision-making, and create more capacity for meaningful community engagement.

This support helps EHCEC use technology responsibly while expanding opportunities and improving services for residents across East Harris County.
