Breaking Barriers in East Harris County

Every family deserves stability — food on the table, a safe home, access to healthcare, and the ability to care for their children. Yet for many in East Harris County, applying for public benefits can feel like navigating a maze. Complicated forms, unclear instructions, and long wait times often stand in the way of the support families need.

That’s where the East Harris County Empowerment Council (EHCEC) comes in. With funding provided by ACAM (the Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries), we’re able to help families navigate public benefit programs step by step.

Whether it’s learning what you qualify for, gathering the right documents, or completing applications online, our team is here to walk alongside you.

Programs We Can Help With

Thanks to ACAM’s support, EHCEC is able to guide families through applications for a wide range of programs, including:

• 🥗 SNAP (Food Stamps / Cupones de alimentos) – putting healthy food on the table

• 🏥 Medicaid / CHIP – affordable healthcare for families and children

• 👶 WIC (Women, Infants & Children) – nutrition for moms, babies, and toddlers

• 💵 TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) – cash support for urgent needs

• 🏠 Housing Assistance – help with safe and stable housing

• 💡 Utility Assistance – keeping the lights on and water running

• 👧 Child Care Assistance – affordable options for working parents

• 👷 Unemployment or Job Support – tools and resources to get back to work

How to Get Started

Getting help is simple. Families can join a virtual info session where our team explains each program, who qualifies, and how to apply. From there, we’ll guide you through the steps — making sure you don’t have to figure it out alone.
